Circa: 1857 Size: 8" - 20cn tall. Manufacturer: no makers marks.
A Copper Luster jug commemorating the relief of Lucklow in 1857. Relief molded and colored, titled portraits of "Sir Henry Havelock 1795-1857" and "Sir Colin Campbell 1792-1863". In September 1857 Sir Henry Havelock fought his way into the Lucknow Residency compound which was under siege (Lucknow was the capital of the former Indian state of Awadh). Their force was only sufficient to reinforce the garrison and the siege continued until Sir Colin Campbell's arrival in November 1857. Havelock died of dysentery on 29 November 1857, a few days after the siege was lifted.. See Victoria Remembered by John May page 201. |
