A mid 19th century 8" temperance child’s plate with molded daisy border and a central transfer print based on one of a series of illustrations by George Cruikshank c.1847. The plate is titled "The Bottle - Plate IV - Unable to obtain Employment" ( 4th in a series of 8). No makers marks. For similar plates see "Gifts for Good Children 1790-1890", by Noel Riley pages 264-266. In good condition with all over age crazing and a small chip under the glaze on the back on the inner rim.
