Mid 19th Century Octagonal plate - King William III, was King of England from 1689 - 1702. "No Surrender" was the battle cry of the Battle of the Boyne. No date in Irish history is better known than 1690. James, a Roman Catholic, had lost the throne of England in the bloodless "Glorious Revolution" of 1688. William was Prince of Orange, a Dutch-speaking Protestant married to James's daughter Mary, and became king at the request of parliament. The Battle is still celebrated in Ireland. Possibly produced about the time of the 150th anniversary in 1840. In good condition with some wear to the hand painted flower border and all over age crazing. No chips, cracks or restoration.
