1852 BRONZE BUST THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON by BARON CARLO MAROCHETTI.
A c.1852 bronze bust of the Duke of Wellington by Baron Carlo Marochetti Italian(1805-1867). In classical robes on an integral socle base, signed and dated on the back. Baron Carlo Marochetti of Vaux (1805-1867) lived and studied in Italy before moving to Paris 1n 1832. Here he created a panel representing the Battle of Jemappes for the Arc de Triomphe. In 1848 he moved to London and became a favorite sculptor of Queen Victoria opening his own foundry where he produced numerous major works for around England and Europe including the lions around Nelson’s Column, the Albert and Victoria Tomb, Windsor (Victoria only placed there in 1901) - also at St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, in front of the Palace of Westminster and the Louvre, Paris.
