GOOD TEMPERANCE PLATE MID 19th CENTURY OCTAGONAL. A hand colored octagonal temperance plate with raised daisy border. The title reads "The drunkard shall not enter the kingdom of God". An angel holds a plaque reading "Intemperance is Ireland's bane, England's curse and Scotland's woe". An eye looks down from above. In very good condition with a little age crazing. INDEPENDANT ORDER OF RECHIBITES ANNIVERSARY MUG. The Independent Order of Rechabites was a friendly society founded in England in 1835 as part of the temperance movement. A bone china 125th anniversary mug in excellent condition.

19th CENTURY TEMPERANCE CUP AND SAUCER. The Temperance crest has a man and woman either side, holding flags reading ‘Sobriety brings Domestic Comfort‘. Above is an oak tree with a banner reading ‘Firm as an Oak'. Below the shield, is written ‘Be Thou Faithful Unto Death‘. In good condition with a a glaze flake under the cup and some age wear to the cup rim otherwise very clean.

c.1884 JOSEPH LIVESEY FOUNDER OF THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT CUP & SAUCER. 1832 JOSEPH LIVESEY founder of the temperance movement and seven workingmen signed a pledge that they would never again drink alcohol. Other groups of working men followed the example of Livesey and his friends and by 1835 the British Association for the Promotion of Temperance was formed. A rare cup & saucer with the the registration mark for 1884 The year of his death. Small 1/2" hairline on the cup above portrait.

An 7 1/2" parian named bust of Lord Burton. Rear inscribed 'H & L'(Hewitt & Leadbeater) and 'A.Willis Sculpt'. Dated Feb 25th 1909. In good very condition.
