c.1855 CRIMEA WAR MUG WITH QUEEN VICTORIA AND NAPOLEON.
Crimean war mug with French and British flags with the profiles of Queen Victoria and Napoleon III. The banner reads ‘God save the Queen - May they ever be united - Vive L’Empereur’. In good condition with strong color and a little age fading to the transfer. Minor expected wear to the rim gilding and a tiny pin prick in the rim glaze. Overall a very nice mug from this period. ........THE CRIMEAN WAR 1854-1856........... FRANCE AND BRITAIN ALONG WITH THE KINGDOM OF SARDINIA AND THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE WENT TO WAR WITH RUSSIA IN THE CRIMEA. THE WAR PRODUCED GREAT PATRIOTISM IN THE BRITISH WHO SAW THE RUSSIANS AS A THREAT TO THE EMPIRE, BUT POPULARITY WANED AS THE DEATH TOLL MOUNTED. BATTLES INCLUDE ALMA AND BALACLAVA (CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE).
