1901 MINTON SECESSIONIST WARE TANKARD - KING EDWARD VII 1901 MINTON’S SECESSIONIST WARE (1st PERIOD) TANKARD FOR THE ACCESSION TO THE THRONE OF KING EDWARD VII. A rarely available mug/tankard.
Leon Solon was hired by Minton's in 1895 after his work was published in The Studio an important design magazine. His early work at Minton's Staffordshire factory was influenced by the Viennese Secessionist art movement, founded by Gustav Klimt and others and became known as Secessionist ware. Age crazing with resulting discoloring mostly under the base. No chips, cracks or restoration ans is considered in good condition. See all pictures.

1929 KING GEORGE V DEVON POTTERY RECOVERY FROM ILLNESS LOVING CUP. A rare 1929 (illness recovery) glazed loving cup by Baron of Barnstaple (Devon, England).Incised ‘Thanksgiving Cup God Save the King 1929’ ‘Citizenship Loyalty Service‘. In 1929 King George V recovering from a serious illness went for a 3 months rest to Bognor, a seaside town on the south coast of England. This Devon Pottery loving cup was produced to celebrate his recovery. In very good condition.

1911 QUEEN MARY RIDGWAY PORTRAIT PLATE. An interesting Ridgways plate with a portrait of Queen Mary (Consort of King George V). In good condition with a small scratch on the front and the usual all over crazing. The gilding is excellent. The white areas are glare.

JOHN WYCLIFFE COMMEMORATIVE BEAKER. John Wycliffe 1320–1384 was an English scholastic Oxford philosopher, who completed his translation of the bible into English in 1382 and was known as an early dissident in the Roman Catholic Church. Wycliffe was declared a heretic in 1415, and his works should be burned and his remains exhumed. Wycliffe's corpse was burned and the ashes cast into the River Swift, in the English Midlands. Front reads 'The River Swift' - Showing the supposed spot where Wycliffe's bones were burnt. No makers marks but probably English about late 19th century - early 20th century. Beaker in very good condition.

TRUSTY SERVANT, WINCHESTER COLLEGE. BEAKER. An interesting china beaker with The Trusty Servent on the front and a verse on the back. In excellent condition. Made by Chelson china, Staffordshire, England.
The Trusty Servant is an imaginary beast from the history of the English city of Winchester. A man with the ears of an ass on a pig's head, the snout is padlocked. Back reads
"A TRUSTY SERVANTS PORTRAIT YOU SEE
THIS EMBLEMATIC FIGURE WILL SURVEY,
THE PORKERS SNOUT - NOT NICE IN DIET SHEWS,
THE PADLOCK SHUT-NO SECRETS HE'EL DISCLOSE,
PATIENT THE ASS-HIS MASTERS WRATH WILL BEAR,
SWIFTNESS IN ERRAND THE STAGS FEET DECLARE,
LOADED HIS LEFT HAND-APT TO LABOUR SAITH,
THE VEST-HIS NEATNESS; OPEN HAND-HIS FAITH,
GIRL WITH SWORD, HIS SHIELD UPON HIS ARM,
HIMSELF AND MASTER HE’LL PROTECT FROM HARM".

c.1884 JOSEPH LIVESEY FOUNDER OF THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT CUP & SAUCER. 1832 JOSEPH LIVESEY founder of the temperance movement and seven workingmen signed a pledge that they would never again drink alcohol. Other groups of working men followed the example of Livesey and his friends and by 1835 the British Association for the Promotion of Temperance was formed. A rare cup & saucer with the the registration mark for 1884 The year of his death. Small 1/2" hairline on the cup above portrait.
