c.1802 KING GEORGE III PEARLWARE TEA BOWL - TREATY OF AMIENS. A polychrome enamel tea bowl celebrating the Treaty of Amiens and the end (temporarily) of the hostilities between France and Britain. To the left of Britannia is Victory holding a palm frond and seated to the right is France with a staff and Liberty Cap (A symbol of the French Revolution). In good condition for its age with 3 tiny spots on the rim glaze possibly in manufacture and a small spot loss of glaze on the inside with the usual glaze crazing.

KING WILLIAM III - BATTLE OF THE BOYNE - NO SURRENDER PLATE. Mid 19th Century Octagonal plate - King William III, was King of England from 1689 - 1702. "No Surrender" was the battle cry of the Battle of the Boyne. No date in Irish history is better known than 1690. James, a Roman Catholic, had lost the throne of England in the bloodless "Glorious Revolution" of 1688. William was Prince of Orange, a Dutch-speaking Protestant married to James's daughter Mary, and became king at the request of parliament. The Battle is still celebrated in Ireland. Possibly produced about the time of the 150th anniversary in 1840. In good condition with some wear to the hand painted flower border and all over age crazing. No chips, cracks or restoration.

CHINA MILITARY CAP FOR THE CORONATION OF KING GEORGE V IN 1911. Unusual 2 1/2" china cap in very good condition with only slight wear to the gilding on the peak.

c.1916 FRAMED GODFREY PHILLIPS CIGARETTE SILK PANEL OF GENERAL SMUTS. GENERAL SMUTS. (1870-1950). Veteran of the Boer War, WWI and WWII. He was twice premier of South Africa. A 9" x 7 1/2" frame containing a Godfrey Phillips Cigarette silk panel from the 1916 Great War Leaders and Celebrites Series. Some light foxing. Back of frame stamped Pieter Oosthuizen.

c.1904 - ENTENTE CORDIALE - MUG. A bone china mug with crossed flags of United Kingdom and France. In really excellent condition. The mark on the base is excess gilding. The ENTENTE CORDIALE (Friendly Understanding) was a series of agreements signed on April 8 1904, between the United Kingdom and France which marked the end of centuries of intermittent conflict between the two nations, and the start of the peaceful co-existence that still continues.

c.1885 ITALY - ETHIOPIA LT COL GALLIANO AND THE ITALIAN INVASION OF ETHIOPIA. A very unusual plate. Overall in good condition with a small scratch on the front some usual wear and a small rim chip on the back not visible from the front. See all photographs.

NAPOLEON BONAPARTE - EARLY 19TH CENTURY JUG COMMEMORATING HIS DEFEAT. A Jug by Samuel Alcock & Co (1828-1853)probably produced in 1849 commemorating the 50th anniversary of the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte by the British under Sir Sidney Smith at the Siege of St. Jean D'Acre in 1799. In very good condition with a 1 1/2" hard to see hairline to the inside glaze of the lip only .

ROYAL DOULTON. FIELD MARSHALL MONTGOMERY CHARACTER JUG. Large 6 1/4" Royal Doulton Jug of Field Marshall Montgomery. The rear impressed 'Monty'. Base has the Royal Doulton mark and a large 'A'. Excellent condition.

LORD KITCHENER OF KHARTOUM JUG. A figure head jug with hand painted brown military uniform. No chips or cracks but overall crazing and a small discoloring to tip of nose. An unusual piece. No makers marks.

BOER WAR PLATE - "A GENTLEMAN IN KHARKI". An unusual 8" Boer War ribbon plate with a sepia portrait - "A gentleman in Kharki" drawn by Caton-Woodville and inspired by a line in the Rudyard Kipling poem "The Absent-minded Beggar". In very good condition. Indistinct makers marks.

BOER WAR PLATE - LORD KITCHENER - THE SIRDAR. General Lord Horatio Kitchener of
Khartoum. Chief of Staff to Lord Roberts and later Commander-in-Chief. For a similar transfer see 'Boer War Memorabilia" by Pieter Oosthuizen plate 20. A nice hanging plate very good condition with good color.

c.1896-1900 LIEUT.-COL. BADEN-POWELL PLATE - BOER WAR. A Lieutenant-Colonel Baden-Powell plate showing his first decoration The Ashanti Star, which he received after The Ashanti Expedition 1895-1896. He was promoted to Major General after the siege of Mafeking in 1900. In very good condition with some wear to the gilded rim.

c.1900 COL. BADEN POWELL BOER WAR PIPE. Named Baden Powell on the stem with the registration mark for 1900. This unusual pipe has some small chips and a repair on the stem behind the shoulder. See all the photos.

A distinguished military career mostly in Africa (Egypt, The Sudan and The Boer War) and served as Secretary of State for War at the outbreak of World War I. In good condition with the usual wear the rim gilding.

c.1855 CRIMEA WAR MUG WITH PROFILES OF QUEEN VICTORIA AND NAPOLEON. Crimean war mug with French and British flags with the profiles of Queen Victoria and Napoleon III. The banner reads ‘God save the Queen - May they ever be united - Vive L’Empereur’. In good condition with strong color and a little age fading to the transfer. Minor expected wear to the rim gilding and a tiny pin prick in the rim glaze. Overall a very nice mug from this period.

FRANCE AND BRITAIN ALONG WITH THE KINGDOM OF SARDINIA AND THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE WENT TO WAR WITH RUSSIA IN THE CRIMEA. THE WAR PRODUCED GREAT PATRIOTISM IN THE BRITISH WHO SAW THE RUSSIANS AS A THREAT TO THE EMPIRE, BUT POPULARITY WANED AS THE DEATH TOLL MOUNTED. BATTLES INCLUDE ALMA AND BALACLAVA (CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE).
